Accessible All-Inclusive Resorts in Kenya: 8 Beach Hotels With Wheelchair Accessible Rooms (2026)
Looking for an accessible all-inclusive resort? Here are eight all-inclusive beach resorts on the Kenya coast with wheelchair accessible rooms, counted by our own team, plus what to ask before you book.
This week, a member of the Accessible Travel group on Facebook asked: what is the best all-inclusive accessible hotel out there? Within two days the question had drawn more than 50 comments.
The first reply was the right one: what’s most important to you? Price, a good room, good food, a free beach wheelchair? Another traveller described booking a roll-in shower room three times at different hotels in one chain, and each time arriving to find the room had been given away.
Those two comments sum up the problem. “All-inclusive” takes care of meals and drinks, but it says nothing about whether you can get into the shower, reach the restaurant or get onto the beach. And the room you booked has to actually be there when you arrive.
The suggestions ranged from Mallorca, Greece and Cancún to Egypt, Australia and Blackpool, and from pool hoists to beach wheelchairs. But as one commenter pointed out, hardly anyone actually named an all-inclusive. And apart from a mention of Egypt, nobody suggested Africa.
Yet the Kenya coast has a long tradition of all-inclusive beach holidays, warm water all year, and a growing number of resorts with accessible rooms. Earlier this year our team travelled the coast from Malindi to Diani, visiting resorts and counting their accessible rooms. Here’s what we found.
Accessible all-inclusive resorts in Kenya: our shortlist
All eight resorts below offer an all-inclusive package and have at least one wheelchair accessible room. Room numbers for the first seven are from our own visits. Package details are from the resorts and their travel partners, and can change, so always confirm what’s included when you book.
1. Diani Reef Beach Resort & Spa, Diani Beach: 12 accessible rooms
The deepest accessible room inventory we found anywhere on the Kenya coast. With 12 accessible rooms, it’s the best option for groups, families travelling with more than one person who uses a wheelchair, and peak-season dates when single accessible rooms elsewhere sell out. Rates are usually quoted half board, with all-inclusive packages available on request.
2. Southern Palms Beach Resort, Diani Beach: 5 accessible rooms
One of Diani’s largest beachfront resorts, with five accessible rooms and both half-board and all-inclusive options. A good choice if you want a big resort with plenty going on.
3. Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Bamburi, Mombasa: 4 accessible rooms
An established North Coast resort with four accessible rooms. Half board is standard, and the all-inclusive upgrade adds lunch, snacks, selected drinks from 10am to midnight, and some watersports and activities. It’s about 30 minutes from Moi International Airport and close to the SGR terminus.
4. Travellers Beach Hotel, Bamburi, Mombasa: 4 accessible rooms
Four accessible rooms, and a feature you rarely see listed online: an inclined platform lift to the conference rooms, so nobody is left outside a meeting or event. All-inclusive here covers buffet meals, snacks between meals, and local drinks, alcoholic and soft.
5. Turtle Bay Beach Club, Watamu: 2 accessible rooms
Turtle Bay sells itself as all-inclusive: meals, afternoon snacks, soft drinks, beer, wine and cocktails until after midnight, and a supervised kids’ club. It sits next to the Watamu Marine National Park, so it’s a good base for a glass-bottom boat trip or a day by the reef. With only two accessible rooms, book early.
6. Diamonds Leisure Beach & Golf Resort, Diani Beach: 2 accessible rooms
Set in large gardens with an 18-hole golf course. The all-inclusive package covers meals, a stocked minibar, drinks at designated bars, non-motorised watersports, entertainment and kids’ and teens’ clubs, with speciality restaurant dinners on stays of five nights or more. The gardens are big, so ask how far your accessible room is from the restaurant and beach.
7. Leopard Beach Resort & Spa, Diani Beach: 1 accessible room
An upmarket all-inclusive option on Diani’s beachfront. With a single accessible room, it suits a couple or solo traveller who books well ahead.
8. Voyager Beach Resort, Nyali, Mombasa: accessible rooms listed by the resort
A large, family-friendly resort on Nyali Beach, just north of Mombasa town and close to Moi International Airport. Its all-inclusive rate covers buffet breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, a selection of local alcoholic and soft drinks, and the Adventurers’ Club for children. Voyager wasn’t part of our coast survey, so we haven’t counted its accessible rooms ourselves. The resort lists some of its single garden-view and sea-view cabins as accessible, so ask for bathroom photos and the step-free route to the restaurant, pool and beach before you book.

Prefer half board? Four more resorts with accessible rooms
We also counted accessible rooms at four resorts where we couldn’t confirm an all-inclusive package: PrideInn Paradise in Shanzu (3 rooms), Severin Sea Lodge in Bamburi (1), Ocean Beach Resort & Spa in Malindi (1) and Maji Beach Boutique Hotel in Diani (1), a quieter, adults-focused option.
What to ask before you book an accessible all-inclusive resort
The Facebook thread made it clear that “accessible” means different things at different hotels. Before you pay, ask:
- Is the accessible room guaranteed, not just requested? Ask for the room type in writing on your confirmation. That’s exactly what went wrong for the traveller whose roll-in shower room was given away three times.
- Roll-in shower or bath? Ask for a photo of the bathroom, the shower seat, grab rails and toilet height.
- Door widths and bed height for the room and bathroom, in centimetres.
- Step-free routes from your room to the restaurant, bar, pool and beach. Large garden resorts can mean long distances.
- Beach and pool access: is there a beach wheelchair, a boardwalk to the sand, or a pool hoist, and does it cost extra?
- What the package covers: drinks hours, speciality restaurants, excursions and watersports vary from resort to resort.
How to get to the Kenya coast
- By air: fly from JKIA or Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Mombasa, Ukunda (for Diani) or Malindi (for Watamu). Coming straight from safari, Mombasa Air Safari links bush airstrips such as the Maasai Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo with the coast, so you don’t need to go back through Nairobi.
- By train: the SGR Madaraka Express runs from Nairobi Terminus to Mombasa Terminus in about five hours. Arrange station assistance in advance.
- By road: Nairobi to Mombasa is roughly 485 km. Public buses and matatus aren’t accessible, so travel in a private adapted vehicle.
Once you’re on the coast, our ramped Toyota Esquire based in Mombasa handles airport and SGR pickups, transfers between resorts and day trips. See our wheelchair accessible vehicles and accessible car rental, or watch our Kenya Beyond Sight coast videos.
